Christmas Week Newsletter! Free

Cloud Pets join the "Cloud"
By the time you read this, Christmas 2015 will be a memory, and we will be on the 3d or 4th day of Christmas!  McDonald's will be changing Happy Meal Toys, soon, with Hello Kitty on the Horizon, and Theriault's will be featuring two more auctions.  I'd love to hear about the dolls you got for this holiday! This week, we learn about Cloud Pets and Stuffies, two new toys for doll collectors to explore.  We review an episode of "Bob's Burgers" that inspire dolls but that also spoof doll collecting, and we'll look at a wonderful puppet from the upcoming Cabaret auction of Japanese dolls.  Happy Collecting!

Dolls! Oh, Well, Tis the Season!

Doll Spoofs, Antiques, Preserving Dolls, Baby Dear and Seasons Greetings!
Christmas is finally here and Hanukkah is behind us; the holidays are in full swing! Theriault's will hold another Rendezvous, and Santa is having his sleigh checked out.  Now is the time to look for holiday dolls and figures; many stores, new and thrift, are putting Christmas items on sale already!  If you don't find that doll you want under the tree,  you can find look for it at the after Christmas sales. Do you have New Year's resolutions for your collections?  I would love to hear them and will gladly post them.  I will  write more posts on holiday dolls through the 12 Days of Christmas, and hope to hear from all of you.  See us on Pinterest for All About Doll Collecting, and on my Facebook page, Dr. E's Doll Museum.  Happy Holidays!

More Dolls and Law

I love it when both disciplines meet!

The Cardigans through CARDWARE have introduced a new “Let’s Keep Warm” matching clothing line for toddlers and children up to age six and their dolls. The clothing line is unique as the sweaters have charms on them that are suitable for a variety of occasions. For example, there are Valentine’s Day sweaters with various hearts attached to the pockets. Included in this newest production are matching clothes for dolls that have the exact small charms and buttons that the toddler/children line has on them. Kendra, a 4-year old was given a sweater for her and her doll for her birthday. One of the charms, a birthday cake, fell off of one of the pockets of Kendra’s doll’s sweater, as the stitching did not secure the charm in place. Kendra picked it up and put it in her mouth to show her doll that the cake was delicious. Unfortunately, she began to swallow the charm. Luckily, her mother was walking by Kendra’s room where she was playing and saw the toddler choking. She was able to retrieve the small item from her airway. Kendra, however, is now devastated and not only has a cut in her esophagus from the charm, but is distraught and is having nightmares over her or her doll wearing their matching sweaters.
Please look at the following website of the Consumer Product Safety Commission:
Next, determine the following:
  1. Would you report the incident to the Consumer Product Safety Commission? Explain.
  2. Discuss whether you would sue the manufacturer/CARDWARE based on negligence or strict liability.
  3. Identify potential manufacturer defenses. Explain.
Something to Think About: Should there have been a warning placed on the sweater or packaging?
Be sure to respond to the following checklist items:
  1. Discuss whether or not strict liability and/or negligence would apply to the scenario.
  2. Examine the doctrine you would utilize in a lawsuit against CARDWARE.
  3. Discuss the various defenses available under the chosen tort.
  4. If you state the law in your response, be sure to cite your source of information.

Free Newsletter, Dolls, Doodads, Degas, and More!

Merry Christmas to my followers, and to my steady readers, including Nikki, Jordan, Glow, and Pennie Plum!

Dancing Divas from Degas, The Master
Appropriately enough, "Rudolph" is playing on TV as I type;the toys just finished singing on the Island of Misfit Toys.  I hope this Christmas you find several dolls you want under the tree, and that you are able to give a few dolls to charity, too.  Towards the end of adding to your collection, Theriault's is holding another Rendezvous Auction this Monday.   Alexander and Tonner also continue to offer special deals, and there are lots of wonderful dolls on Ruby Lane, Doll Shops United, Ebay, Etsy, and more. Remember to write to me at etsag1998@aol.com, and let me know what your doll wants are in 2016!  Happy collecting!
